I heard a saying today I had never heard before:
“The wishbone should never replace the backbone”
It is nice to have wishes, after all imagination and fantasy are the bedrock if not the backbone of the Writer. But without backbone, how will you be able to discipline yourself to enable your dreams to come true. A writer needs the wings of imagination to write but he must have his feet firmly planted on the ground and have the backbone to withstand all manner of onslaughts, criticism and rejection if he is to succeed at his chosen vocation.
